La Haine (1995)

This is a 1995 social realism film. This looks at the themes of poverty, conflict and war. It was made by Mathieu Kassovitz as he had Directed and wrote the film it was produced by Christophe Rossignon. The film was given $2.6 million from Canal and had made $15.3 million. The film's key stars are Vincent Cassel, Hubert Kondé and Saïd Taghmaoui. It had won an award at the cannes film festival for best director. The film follows three different youths for a day in Paris during 1995 riots. For this I shall be looking at the performance and the cinematography.

In one section there is a part where a person is about to DJ some music in the estate. When he starts the camera starts to rise above the buildings to show everything in the estate and to demonstrate the size of the estate. This is done is so that it makes the audience feel as if they are a bird flying through the sky. The choice of this would be because that birds are often seen as being free creatures who are able to go wherever they like which is a dream of the people in the estates.

In another section the boys have gone to some sort of gathering and the police have just raided it causing them to run away. At one point Vinz is face to face with a police officer shortly after saying he'd shoot one. When this happens the face of Vinz drops as you can see the fear in his face as he thinking about what would happen if he killed someone. It demonstrates how Vinz isn't an honest man and isn't able to put his money where his mouth is.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) compare and contrast to Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Dawn of the Dead is a 1978 horror movie containg the themes of survival, humanity and isolation. It was directed and written by George A. Romero and produced by Richard P. Rubstein. The film was funded by Laurel with a budget of $650,000 and had made $55,000,000 worldwide. It stars David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger and Gaylen Ross. Only Gaylen Ross went on to do other films which were highly received as she had become an director. The film hadn't won many awards however it was nominated for best make up. The film follows 4 people as they attempt to survive  zombie apocalypse in a shopping centre. Films similar to this would be Dawn of the Dead (2004), Night of the living Dead (1968) and 28 Days Later(2002).

Dawn of the Dead is a 2004 horror movie containing the themes of survival, humanity and morales. It was directed by Zack Snyder based off George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead (1978) screen platy by James Gunn and produced by Marc Abraham, Eric Newman and Richard P. Rubstein. The film was funded by strike entertainment with a budget of  $26,000,000 and made $59,000,000 in America. The film stars too many characters to be listed as I feel they are weak characters. The film won only one award however it was often nominated for best horror film. The film is based off the script of George A. Romero's 1978 Dawn of the Dead. Films similar to this would be Dawn of the Dead (1978), Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead (2004).

In the films they both have a strong use of sound and misc en scene. This can be seen in the original as when ever a tense scary moment would be slowly approaching a high pitched sound would be heard, this would be making the audience nervous. In addition when a  action type section would be approaching then a more jazz type track would arrive making the graphic nature of the content less disgusting to the audience. Music is used in the remake as the track "Down with the sickness" is used mainly for it's high energy and the fact that it has something to do with viruses. An altered slow downed version of the song is in the film to demonstrate how slow the world seems to be to the characters.

However a clear difference in the films is the amount of characters in the film. As in the 2004 film there are 16 survivors! When in the original there is only 4. This means that the performance time we have of the characters is severely cut unfortunately making the audience have less of a bond with the audience making them care more for their survival. While having the survivors in the original having more screen time meaning that you can learn more about them see their characteristics and also care more for them.

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

This is an 1996 action directed by Robert Rodriguez, produced by Gianni Nunnari and  Meir Teper and story written by Robert Kurtzman and screenplay by Quentin Tarintino. The film was funded by Miramax and Dimension films with a budget of $19,000,000 and had made $25,000,000. The film Stars George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harry Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Ernest Liu, Salma Hayet, Danny Trejo, Tom Savini and Fred Williamson. The film had won awards for best actor being George Clooney and best horror movie. The film follows two brothers who go into the titty twister club and have to survive the night. In this I shall be looking at the misc en scene and the performance in the film.

For this I shall be looking at the misc en scene. One of the films themes is religion. To show this in the film there are crosses are often seen with the Fuller family to demonstrate they are christians and the faith they have. These are most often seen by Kate as she would wear one around her neck while her father who had abandoned it would not. This is telling the audience that the children aren't completely dependent upon their father.

For this I shall be looking at the performance of Quentin Tarantino. In the film Quentin Tarantino is playing a unstable young man. To show this he puts on a light voice and appears to be confused. The effect this will have will make him appear more terrifying as his character is meant to be a killer and thief. It shall also in addition be empathising the fact that he is younger of the two brothers and is still learning about the world.

Enter The Battlefield-Life on the Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour

This is a 2016 documentary directed and produced by Shawn Kornhauser and Nathan Holtb and edited by Shawn Kornhauser.  The film was from Wizards of the Coast what had a budget of unknown though I imagine of $0 dollars and has made unknown as only released under 12 hours ago and will make as much as YouTube pays and how much Netflix would have payed. The film focuses on seven pro players these being Shahar Shenhar, Patrick Chapin, Chris Pikula, Melissa Detora, William Jensen, Owen Turtenwald and Reid Duke. In this analysis I shall be looking at the cinematography and the editing.

In this part I shall be looking at the cinematography in the film. Nearing the end we see a shot of one of the pros and his son. The purpose of this shot is to show how similar the two are and that they are related. It also is caught inside of another room so that it seems we are looking into his more personal life that you can see how much he has to do in his life.

In this part I shall be looking at the editing of the film.In the film they introduce the different people and different parts in the film in different ways. One of the main ways they had done it was to have a moving background. The point behind this was that they would understand who each person was and what part of the film was in.

The Karate Kid (1984)

This is an 1984 comedy directed by John G. Avildsen written by Robert Mark Kamen and produced Jerry Weintraub. It has the themes of friendship, kung fu and love. The film was given $8,000,000 by columbia pictures which had made $90,000,000 in the US. The film stars Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. The film had received an Oscar nomination for Pat Morita's performance as an supporting actor. Films similar to this would be the karate kid 2 & 3 in addition so would "Enter the Dragon". The film follows Daniel who recently moved to California and how he deals with his new found life. For this I shall be looking at the misc en scene and performance within the film.

This shall be a look at the misc en scene more closely the costume with in the film. In the film the colour red is often seen within it mostly on pieces of clothing. This would be symbolizing hatred, anger and frustration. It would be often seen by a character feeling this. It would signify to the audience how a character is feeling or that another is going to do something bad soon in the film.

In the film Pat Morita plays an old master character type. This is done as the common characteristics would be a smart and secretive this can be seen in other films such as Gandolf from LOTR series. When doing the secretive section he often would appear joyful as if he is rather simple, however in contrast when appearing smart he would adapt a straight body position which would be tense showing the amount of control and technique he has to the audience.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (2014)

This is an 2014 adventure film directed by Francis Collins written by Suzanne Collins produced by Nina Jacobson and John Kilik. The film was given $125,000,000 form Lionsgate studios which had made $337,000,000. The film stars Jenifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore. The film won no awards however it was given allot of nominations for Jenifer Lawrence. Films similar to this is the rest of the the series and Battle Royale. For this I shall be looking at the misc en scene and the performance.

In this is shall be looking at the misc en scene of the setting and costume. Most of the film is set inside of a dark grey vault with the people wearing grey jumpsuits as well. This would be communicating to the audience how the people are feeling and what the tone is of the film. This can be seen as in the previous films the more depressing areas were surrounded in the colour grey while the happier part of the film would have been surrounded by colour.

I shall be looking at the performance and contrast in the film. In the film as well we see Katnis (Lawrence) shows a variety of emotions. In one part she appears to be very un energized. This would be demonstrating to the audience that what she is doing isn't exciting or motivating her to do what is wanted. However later on she goes in full contrast and shows a deep sadness.

Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) (No Spoilers)

This is an 1987 action film which has the themes of revenge, loyalty and 80s culture (This film screams it). The film was directed by Tony Scott, produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, written by Robert D. Wachs and Eddie Murphy. The film stars Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, Jurgen Reinhol, Ronny Cox, John Ashton and Brigitte Nielsen. The film was given a budget of $28,000,000 from paramount pictures with a profit of $153,000,000. The film was nominated for an Oscar for the song shakedown in it and had won other awards for the track. The film looks at Axel Foley as he tries to solve the the mystery of his friend's near fatal attack and to solve the alphabet robber mystery. Films which are similar to this would be Beverly hills cop 1 & 3 and 48hours. For this I shall be looking at the performance and the misc en scene.

In this is shall be looking into the misc en scene of the introduction scene. In the opening scene with the the jewelry robbery the audience can easily tell who the main villain is. They can tell it is the woman as she appears to be wearing something completely different to every other member of the team. This would be highlighting her making the audience realize this. To strengthen this the rest of the people are in black often seen being wore by villains of movies.

This shall be looking at the character Axel and how he is portrayed in his performance. In the film Axel is portrayed as a very larger than life and confident person. This can be seen by Eddie Murphy's performance. It is done as he (As in allot of his films) uses a loud voice to show this and to convince others he is correct masking him appear larger than life. Though when appearing to be confident he acts relaxed and calm this can be seen when he is relaxing in the swimming pool while being told he can't be there.
