La Haine (1995)

This is a 1995 social realism film. This looks at the themes of poverty, conflict and war. It was made by Mathieu Kassovitz as he had Directed and wrote the film it was produced by Christophe Rossignon. The film was given $2.6 million from Canal and had made $15.3 million. The film's key stars are Vincent Cassel, Hubert Kondé and Saïd Taghmaoui. It had won an award at the cannes film festival for best director. The film follows three different youths for a day in Paris during 1995 riots. For this I shall be looking at the performance and the cinematography.

In one section there is a part where a person is about to DJ some music in the estate. When he starts the camera starts to rise above the buildings to show everything in the estate and to demonstrate the size of the estate. This is done is so that it makes the audience feel as if they are a bird flying through the sky. The choice of this would be because that birds are often seen as being free creatures who are able to go wherever they like which is a dream of the people in the estates.

In another section the boys have gone to some sort of gathering and the police have just raided it causing them to run away. At one point Vinz is face to face with a police officer shortly after saying he'd shoot one. When this happens the face of Vinz drops as you can see the fear in his face as he thinking about what would happen if he killed someone. It demonstrates how Vinz isn't an honest man and isn't able to put his money where his mouth is.
