Devil Wears Prada (2006)

This is a 2006 comedy which has the themes of work, fashion and relationships. It was directed by David Frankel, written by Aline Brosh McKenna and produced by Wendy Finerman. It was funded by Fox 2000 pictures with a budget of $35,000,000 the film had made $125,000,000. It stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The film had been nominated for two Oscars for Leading Actress and costume though they didn't win however they had won some awards in those areas however. The film follows Andrea (Hathaway) as she's given a new job at a fashion magazine and starts to learn all about that world. For this I shall be looking at sound and misc en scene.

For this I shall be looking at the sound. Near to the beginning we are told that Miranda Priestly (Streep) is coming. Some music then starts to play which slowly as the scene progresses and things look more chaotic goes faster and louder. This would be increasing the tension to the anticipation of seeing who she is. When she does arrive there is very little noise just Miranda talking to Emily (Blunt). It would usually make the audience relax however it puts them on edge as nobody seems to be relaxed and Miranda doesn't seem to notice how much effort they have put in to looking really nice.

At one point of the film Miranda and Nigel (Tucci) are having a meeting with some other colleges about some clothing for the magazine while Andrea is note taking. At one point Andrea has a little laugh when another woman says that two blue belts are completely different. This leads to Miranda telling Andrea a long history about what she's wearing. It would then start to make the audience look at what Andrea is wearing a bit in a darker light however you would also notice that the belts and her jumper are both blue, which is telling the audience that history is repeating it self. All of this is letting the audience know the greatness of the fashion industry and how nothing really changes in the world.
