Jackie Brown (1997)
This is an 1997 crime film which has the themes of love, work and deceit. The film was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino it was produced by Lawrence Bender. It had been funded by Miramx films with a budget of $12,000,000 and had made a gross of $40,000,000. The key cast were Pam Grier, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Foster, Micheal Keaton and Robert De Niro. The film hadn't won any awards however it was nominated for an Oscar for best best supporting actor. The film follows a woman called Jackie Brown who is one day arrested for caring $10,000 and some cocaine for Ordell a known gun sales man, she is bailed out by him so he can kill her however she intends to get her freedom by giving him to the police and walking away with $500,000 of Ordell's money. For this is shall be looking at cinematography and misc en scene.
In the money exchange section the film is filmed from three different camera angels these being of Jackie's, Louis and Max. As the film progresses in this section you see the different points of view. The point of this is too show what each of the other characters had been doing at that point. The first time was viewed form Jackie's point of view when watching it you don't get to see or hear Louis or Max. When Jackie comes out of the dressing room she seems to be panicking making the audience panic as it gives the idea that Max wasn't there and something went wrong. After that you watch Louis Melanie's point of view of the situation when you do you see that Max was there and the two do acknowledge each other. When Melanie goes in it causes the audience to wonder what's going to happen putting them in suspense as the camera follows her. When it reaches the point with Max it shows all of the missing points in the film as it shows how he did get the money however one of the best shots of his part is when him and Jackie see each other letting the audience know that her panicking was just her acting.
Throughout the scene the colour yellow is seen. It' seen by a mug of Max's in his office Jackie as well has a yellow mug showing the connection the two have. Ordell is often seen wearing a yellow jacket as well. Having this shows how the lot are related to each other as they are all working for bad causes. However Ray who is working for the police force is not seen with the colour yellow. It tells the relationship all the characters have to the audience as Jackie and Max have the strongest and two show it they have the same item while Ordell has a jacket showing they have differences however they are slightly similar. Ray not being linked to the colour yellow shows that he doesn't understand nor is apart of that type of world.
