Snatch (2000) No Spoilers

This is a 2000 crime and comedy film which has the themes of illegal goods, boxing and gypsies. It was written and directed by Guy Richie and produced by Matthew Vaughn. The films were funded by Columbia with a budget of £6,000,000 and had made £30,000,000. Key cast members are Benicio Del Toro, Dennis Farina, Vinne Jones, Brad Pitt, Rade Serbedzija, Jason Statham, Alan Ford, Mike Reid, Robbie Gee and Lennie James. Thye film had won a Empire award for Best British Director and Best British Actor with Vinne Jones. The film follows many different stories which are all linked together at different points however they all contain bad people and they will do something illegal. For this film I shall look at the cinematography and the editing.

In the opening titles scene we are introduced to the main characters of the film. In this we have many different but very interesting transitions. For example we have Cousin Avi looking at a diamond then he puts it into his safe on the right side of the screen then have Sol collect it. This obviously this couldn't happen as they are both in different countries however it has been cut so you get that impression it has happened. The audience would interpret this as being very connected and that everyone in the film will know who each other are.

Throughout the film the film often shows different characters from different angles mostly high and low. The best example would be of Brick Top as he is often seen form an low angle shot. This would be communicating to the audience that he is clearly someone who has allot of power and in addiction should not be messed with.
