Family Plot (1976)

Is anyone interested in seeing Download 2016? I got 24 tickets I really need to sell.

This is a 1976 mystery film which was directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock and written by Ernest Lehman. The film has the themes of family, crime and jobs. The film had been given a budget by universal pictures of $4,500,000 and had made $13,200,000. The film stars Karen Black, Bruce Dern, Barbra Harris and William Devane. It had won an Edgar Allan Poe award for best film of the year. The film follows the story of couple who look for a man who no one knows as if they find him they'll be paid $10,000 however it takes them down a dark path. For this film I shall be looking at the editing and misc en scene.

For this I shall be looking at editing. In one part Blanche and George meant to meet with Joseph Maloney however Joesph has cut out their brakes meaning they go down the hill at a high speed. With having quick changing shots is meant to increase the tension of the film as it makes it fast pace. To also make the film fast paced the clips have been sped up to make it as if the car is going faster and faster. This would make the audience tense as there are so many close calls with crashing to an unfortunate death.

Often in Hitchcock's films he would have a "Mac Guffin" which is a object what would be critical to the characters but not to the audience. In this film it would be the tombstone. This piece of set would tell George allot meaning that the film can go on as without it the film would never of gotten off. This tells very little to the audience as they don't have any information accessible  to them meaning they need to pay more attention which is what Hitchcock wanted.
